Unwanted Behaviours, Habits, Unhealthy Patterns
Most people seek therapy because they have some undesired behaviour such as smoking, a quick temper, over-eating, phobic reaction and other habits and compulsions that they wish to change.
For example, someone might experience a panic attack when asked to make a presentation to work colleagues. They know logically that they should be able to speak with confidence but for some reason their body has responded differently to this logic.
Many existing therapies such as hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT and EMDR offer effective ways of dealings with these brain responses and behaviours but not all therapies work for everyone all of the time.
Most of the above therapies use as a foundation a long accepted idea of the make-up of the mind. The idea implies that the mind is consists of at least two distinct but connected parts; the conscious and the subconscious mind. The subconscious is considered the most powerful of the two parts. It is from the subconscious mind that those unconsciously driven habits, patterns and seemingly automatic urges emanate from. The conscious and subconscious minds have never had scientific proof to support their existence. In fact we don’t even know where the concept of the mind exists although it is assumed it is housed in the brain.
The old adage of “practice makes perfect” has a connection to a new therapy which is called Brain Working Recursive Therapy®.
When we try to learn something new we practice it over and over again until it becomes second-nature to us. An example of this can be learning to drive a car. When we first attempt to use the gas pedal, brake, clutch to change gear, steering wheel, indicators and mirrors it can all seem too much.
However through gradual rehearsal and repetition of what we need to master (eg. clutch control for a hill start) and many more lessons of practice, we get more competent at driving. Our body responds more appropriately to events (stimuli) around us as we drive the car. Our confidence grows and our successes inspire us. The end result is a new network of neural pathways that enable us to be competent drivers.
BWRT® uses the same idea of learning a new way of reacting and behaving via repetition, rehearsal and reflection on successes. In doing so the brain provides a new neural pathway network. The only difference is that rather than acquiring a new behaviour such as driving, it is about changing an undesired behaviour in favour of a better behaviour.
BWRT® – Brain Working Recursive Therapy is a way of rewiring the brain to lead a person to have a healthier and more desired response to a situation.
BWRT® utilises the accepted scientific idea of the way the brain processes information from the environment and uses this to help people to change.
The brain reacts to stimuli from the environment by looking for common themes from its history bank and then fires an electrical signal along myriad of neural pathways and gateways at lightning speed.
It happens so fast that a person is in the middle of a reaction even before they get to consciously comprehend what is happening. Hence the instant immediate palpitations, rapid heart beat and butterflies in the stomach, a person who has a spider phobia experiences even though the spider might be small, harmless and dead.
BWRT® offers a different approach based on the way the brain processes information, to help anyone to change.
